Abstract: Elaborated in the paper is the production of the steel pipe to be used for fabricating casing of hydraulic cylinder. It is pointed out that it is not rational that at present and in most cases，the seamless steel tube is being used by the industry to fabricate casing of the hydraulic cylinder，no matter how high the fluid pressure of the hydraulic cylinder is. The rationality of using the cold-drawn HFW pipe for fabricating casing of the hydraulic cylinder is discussed. As a result，it is suggested that the cold-drawn HFW pipe be used to make casings of low and medium pressure hydraulic cylinders， and part of the high-pressure ones， and the national standard entitled as Cold-rolled（drawn）Precision Weld Pipes for Mechanical Structures be drafted.
