Abstract:
Discussed in the paper are the major factors which may affect the accuracy of seamless steel pipe detection with the spark discharge atomic emission spectrometry.Reference pipes with variable physical conditions are analyzed with different measurement positions. As a result,it is identified that when using the above mentioned spectrometric detection method to test chemical composition of the seamless steel pipe, the capital factor affecting the measurement accuracy is the heterogeneity of the pipe’s composition. The optimum measurement position to ensure measurement accuracy of the pipe is related to the pipe’s wall thickness. In case of pipe with thickness more than the agitating hole caliber of the meter, the pipe end is used as the position for the analysis, while for pipe with thickness less than the hole caliber,a position as 1/2~3/4 of the pipe thickness measured from the outer surface towards the inner surface is used as the position for the analysis. And when an extra-thin specimen is used,a piece of steel specimen has to be put upon it for easy heat conduction.
