Abstract: Described in the paper are the category of the HPHT oil/gas wells，and the problems as currently staying with exploitation of such wells. Also discussed are selection and evaluation testing of the premium connections as used in the said wells. Elaborated here are the experience of SHELL in successful application of such evaluation testing. The analysis leads to the conclusion as follows. Overall physical evaluation testing should be conducted to the premium connections for HPHT wells to prove their rather high reliability and suitability；Based on the actual service conditions，proper connection testing class should be chosen，and relevant supplementary test evaluation procedures should be made as per ISO 13679∶2002；and furthermore，SHELL’s experience in selection of premium connections for HPHT wells should be used for reference，i.e.，using the premium connection with 2-step seal structure.
