Comparative Study on Hydrostatic Burst Test Results of SAWL and SAWH Steel Pipes

    • Based on the data statistics of the results of the hydrostatic burst tests as made to 46 pieces of the steel pipe and 41 pieces of the SAWL steel pipe the blasting characteristics are analyzed, and the ratios of the actual yield pressure/theoretical yield pressure, actual bursting pressure/theoretical tensile pressure, actual maximum tensile pressure/theoretical tensile pressure are calculated. The difference between the two SAW pipes groups as tested are studied by means of analyzing the positions of the burst point and the crack-stopping point, and the direction and length characteristics of the burst fracture as well as the characteristics of the burst start point position on the steel pipe, etc. It is regarded via the analysis that the comprehensive quality performances of the SAWL and SAWH pipes as tested are good enough to meet the application requirements for long-distance oil/gas transmission pipelines. The only slight differences between the two kinds of saw pipes focus on certain details like the burst start point position on the base steel plate, and the remained wall thickness at the burst start point, etc.
