FE Simulation and Process Optimization of Ф400 mm Plug Pipe Mill

Abstract
To improve the steel tube wall thickness accuracy of the Ф400 mm plug pipe mill of Baogang I & S United Co., Ltd., the rolling-stick test and the finite element simulation are conducted, resulting in identification of the metal strain distribution in the groove. Owing to the optimized groove data and improvement of the roll groove itself, both the longitudinal and transversal wall thickness deviations of tube are significantly reduced.
