Abstract
The paper analyses the causes of triangular end occurrence when piercing 580/565mm steel ingot into φ570mm×90mm shell for φ337mm×10~12mm casing on pilger mill. The measures to decrease triangular ends of pierced shell are found through the comprehensive investigation on C content in steel, ingot heating time and shell temperature at outletof piercing as well as ingot height.
