Application of Double-tip Contact Welding in Production of HFW Pipe

Briefed in the paper are the basic principles of contact welding and induction welding，and compared are their advantages and disadvantages.Based on the analysis of defects shown in single-tip contact welding，the techonology of double-tip contact welding for HFW pipe is introduced，concerning the selection of electrode material，the development of double-electrode contact mode installing system and cooling system，and the development of the strip steel edge descaling device.The practical application results indicate that CuCrZr is a suitable material for making electrodes for double-tip contact welding.When double-tip contact welding is being applied，no spark occurs and the welding quality is stable with the weld quality in compliance with API Spec 5L—2012 specification.
