Discussion on Service Life of Piercing Plug

Different failures of the piercing plug and the causes responsible therefore are investigated. Based on the result, measures for prolonging the piercing plug service life are put forward, including setting up proper heat treatment process as per specific working conditions of the plug and using combined treatment process to enhance the thermal strength of the plug instead of solely using the oxidation method which failed to fix the problem.
