Discussion of Application of Edge-milling Process to Manufacture of Spiral Weld Pipe

Three processes are commonly used for steel strip edge-trimming in manufacture of spiral weld pipes,i.e.,edge-shearing,edge-planing and edge-milling. Among these processes,edge-milling process possesses a number of advantages,such as lower strip consumption,higher yield,better welding quality,enabling easier elimination of the meniscus shaped-defect of the strip and being more safe,and therefore is expected to be the main process for steel strip edge-trimming. Elaborated in the article are the advantages of the edge-milling process,the elements that influence the application of such process in spiral weld pipe manufacture,and the process layout of the edge-milling machine.
