    Technological Practice for and Research on Improvement of Round Blooms for Tube-making

    • Addressing the defects relating to the Pangang-supplied round blooms for tube-rolling, it was identified by sample analysis that the major defect of the bloom is surface crack, based on which, follow-up studies were conducted. As a result, positive measures have been taken, including proper control of the sulfur content of the charges of the melting furnace, and final carbon content and content of acid-dissolved aluminium in the molten metal; optimization of the bloom-rolling process, improving the bloom clamping device and employment of a hi-pressure descaling system. Thanks to the a.m. measures, quality of the round bloom has been significantly improved, thus the yield of the tube rolling operation.
